Riding the Harley Home

May 12, 2009

John and I flew to Florida on Thusday, packed up the Harley, and got on the road Friday at about 11am. We had some business to take care of a block from TPC, where The Players Tournament was in progress, so got a later start than we wanted, but it worked out perfectly. We mapped a route on secondary, scenic highways and literally had the roads to ourselves. Lush forests, vast farms, and quaint towns were our companions for the first 450 miles. We called it a night in Montgomery Alabama, where we walked from our hotel to enjoy a fabulous fish dinner and turned in, so we could get an early start on Saturday.

Saturday, we were on the road by 7:30, and again the roads were ours. We traveled almost 700 miles through Mississippi, Tennessee, and into Missouri, dodging a few rain storms along the way. Gave us practice putting on and taking off the rain gear. We’ll be experts for our Sturgis trip in August. Along with rain, we dodged a frightened deer, who ran in circles in the median to our left, and a fiesty “attack” chihuahua, who was dumb enough to charge a moving Harley … it is not a small bike, BTW! No worries, he didn’t get hurt.

We listened to music and cruised, pulling into St. Louis as the gas light came on. After filling up the tank, we headed home, just in time for dinner. Two days on the road from one home to the other, and we were fresh and ready to continue riding. Woohoo – this was a true testament to how comfortable the bike is … Roadtrips, here we come!!

I can’t wait for our next adventure. Until then, be safe and enjoy life. Hugs — Christine.
