I took a break from my WIP today and went for a walk. Usually, I run Forest Park, but today I decided to walk the park instead. I came across a group of small children, their laughter like magic. The sky was gray, the air misty with rain, but that did not dampen their joy. They skipped and ran, creating an imaginary world of adventure. Their voices sang with delight, cresting with waves of excitement, and I stood enthralled.
Their simple pleasure was infectious, and it made me realize that we as adults could learn from them. We harness so much stress, put so many demands on ourselves that we forget to laugh and enjoy the little things in life. Why can’t we, just for a moment each day, play?
D.H. Lawrence once said, “Play – life is ours to be spent, not saved.” So, what are we waiting for? Let’s open our wallets of creativity. I for one am going to seize the moment and hit the playground! Want to join me?
