Take a walk on the beach with me…

January 2, 2017

Hi. I’m starting the new year with a new purpose and a new look. My new website is up and I’d like you to take a look at it. www.christinemazurk.com

walking The Beach

I have two books to finish writing and a marathon to train for, so I’m reorganizing how I work in 2017. The mornings will start with a run or some other workout, then I’ll get to the computer to write.

I plan to walk the beach at low tide to focus on the scenes that still need to be written, and I’m inviting you to come along. We’ll do this a few times a month. I’ll share some of my thoughts about what the characters are doing without giving away too much of the story.

Today we’ll walk with PJ Madison and Spencer Hayes, the two main characters in Passion’s Promise. PJ has reluctantly agreed to train for an Ironman race to help heal her splintering family. It was a difficult decision for her as she’s graduating from veterinary school and currently studying for the boards. Spencer, her best friend, basically cornered her to accept her mother’s challenge and because he knows how dead set against competition PJ is, he has decided to train with her and race by her side.

I’m imagining the tension that can arise between two friends as they focus on the three disciplines, two of which are PJ’s strengths, the other not-so-much! As I think about their first bike ride together, I imagine them getting passed by a group of pros. Knowing the bike is not PJ’s strength, will Spencer take chase and try to catch the pros or will he stick with his best friend to keep her focused? I know the scenario that’s running through my head, so I best get back to the computer and get it captured on the pages.

Until next time, hugs!!!

Mid-year Update

July 23, 2016

Running The Beach

Fly Like A Bird…

The other office view…

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a while since my last post. I didn’t have any new news to share, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. I’m plugging away on two new stories; the third in the Passion’s Series – which I now think of as “the athletic journey” series and the second in the Mystical Series – now tagged as “the spirit with a message” series.  Both sets of characters are scrambling around in my brain, begging for attention!

I’m now splitting my writing view between the ocean and the mountains. No more St. Louis. Maybe the view dictates which characters shout the loudest? Passion’s Promise is set in St. Augustine, FL (Ocean) and Mystical Moments is set in San Francisco, CA (West Coast; mountains). Hmm, that theory seems to hold true! At this moment, I writing looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, and PJ Madison and Spencer Hayes are in mid-action, training to do Ironman Florida (an early November race).

I also think my runs on the beach at low-tide inspire the feelings and emotions necessary for writing the athletic journey piece of the story. Concentrating on the feel of my muscles as they work to carry me across the sand helps bring life to PJ and Spencer! And breathing in the salty tag of the ocean refreshes my senses.

Having said that, maybe it’s time for me to hit the beach to drum up some more inspiration for tomorrow’s scenes.

Until next time – Hugs!

Mike Dawson, owner of Mike’s Resort on Guam, hosts Team Fear US, an Ironman triathlon team, during their training months each year. This year, the team shows up with a few new faces from Team Fear US2 and Natalie Walsh, their buttoned-up doctor, a lone-wolf runner extraordinaire. Over time, working with these endurance athletes sparks her competitive nature and she embarks on her own athletic journey as a marathon runner not just to race but to win. Is she fast enough to qualify for Boston? The Olympic trials?

Natalie’s brother, confined to a wheelchair after a football injury that turned him into a bitter recluse, at his sister’s insistence grudgingly embarks on his own athletic journey with Team Fear US2. Does he recover more than his competitive spirit?

Surfer-dude Mike vows to help the gorgeous doctor relax and learn what island life is all about. She doesn’t trust anyone, especially him, yet he slowly breaks down her walls of defense. Though they both fight the magnetic pull, some unknown force keeps pushing them together.

Can she stop running long enough to recognize a trustworthy soul and allow him to care for her? Will he realize he can open his heart and share more than a one-night stand?

In the end, will either have the courage to change? To risk life as they know it for the unknown?

Bonus material: read an excerpt from book 3 in the Passion’s Series, Passion’s Promise, PJ Madison’s story!!

Time to get back to work. Mystical Moments, Anya Quinlan’s story is taking shape.

Until next time,

Hugs ~ Christine ~

Passion’s Spirit (book 2 of the Passion’s Series)

September 9, 2015

Passion’s Spirit

Finally, Passion’s Spirit will be available in paperback and eBook in October 2015. Woohoo!! Can you see me doing the Snoopy Dance?

I have to share. It’s taken many more months than planned to have this book ready. Why? Because new twists and turns kept popping up at the most unusual times. Like my other books, these surprises made me sit back and ask; why is this important? And why should the story go in this new direction instead of the way I had it planned?

I’m glad I listened to my muse, because she took me on an emotional and sometimes riveting  roller coaster ride with ideas that strengthen the plot lines and overall story arc. The characters showed more vulnerabilities and met tougher challenges. They overcame those challenges in a surprising and emotionally satisfying way, not one I expected, but one I gladly embraced as the words filled the screen. I think you’ll love the journey Mike Dawson and Natalie Walsh traveled.

In the end, I have to say, the extra time spent on this story allowed me to tweak the team members personalities while revisiting their favorite training ground, the island of Guam. I felt I was there again even though it’s been many years since we lived on the island. I had my Guam-go-to-team on hand to keep me updated on island changes in order for the setting to feel authentic throughout the story. (Although, remember it is still a work of fiction!)

I also think, whether you’re an athlete or not, you’ll enjoy the athletic journey. Who wouldn’t with this group of crazy knuckleheads? They will make you laugh and they’ll make you cry…

So, stay tuned for the pre-order dates – you’ll be able to buy it at a discount – and the official release date (Price will remain discounted for the first week.) I should know the details by Sept. 21st.

Until then, enjoy your own journey.

Hugs ~ Christine ~

A New Passion Found…

May 26, 2015

The turn around point

My husband and I just spent a wonderful weekend in Utah. This time around, we tried out our new trail running vests by Ultimate Direction. Our first outing was a favorite hiking site, Taylor Creek in Kolob Canyon. The rocky, undulating terrain kept us on our toes (literally) to avoid twisted ankles, drenched feet, and face plants into rock. People hiking along the trail looked at us as if we had three heads, but that made it even more fun. The weather was spectacular, the breeze cooling as we stretched our limits on the way out to the double arches and back.

Our second run was a loop in the Red Cliffs, and about 3/4 of a mile into it, the rain started falling and the trail turned to mud! Thick red clay that stuck to your shoes and clumped until you felt you were dragging 20 lbs. of muck with you. Ever tried running in quick sand? That’s what this felt like. Every few steps, we’d shake our feet and watch the clumps fly off, only to collect more with the next few strides. We were committed, there was no turning back. We had to finish, so we kept pushing along, laughing as we went. Who knew trail running could be such an adventure?!!

As we continued forward, my muse poked her head out and shouted above my heavy breathing that I’d just found the athletic journey for Kate Brooks in Hart’s Passion. Originally, Kate was going to get hooked on mountain biking, but to be honest, when we lived in California, we mountain biked and I never fell in love with it. Give me a road and a skinny tired race bike and I’m in heaven, but bumping through rough terrain never made me smile. So Kate will now venture into trail running!!!

Since this is a new passion for me and my husband, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to gather research material for Kate before I have to sit down to write her story. (Remember it’s book 4 of the Passion’s Series.) We’ll have time to explore and find other challenging trails to conquer! My dreams are now filled with running through nature; the trees, the valleys, the canyons with the blue sky (or black clouds) overhead.

A new passion has been found. Trail running here we come … feet first!!!

Until next time, Hugs – Christine

RI Author Expo 2014

November 10, 2014

My Table

Chatting with fans

Cool.

This weekend I was in Rhode Island, West Warwick to be exact, for the Author Expo. Thanks #ARIA for pulling such a spectacular event together. 103 Authors were there signing and selling their books AND YES, I was one of them. At the table to my right sat Jeanine Duval Spikes. (She also writes YA novels as JD Spikes). Across from us were our two other SOS, Annette Blair and Lynn Jenssen!

We had a blast pitching Sisters Of Spirit and our own titles as people strolled up to check out our tables. It was awesome to engage with other authors and the multitude of readers. Many were amazed that the four of us wrote a book together the way we did, weaving each of the characters into our own story and wrapping up all four arcs in the last story. Many asked how we pulled it off? In unison, we would answer, “It was fun!” Several asked if we planned to write a second SOS, and we answered that we had discussed the concept and plot ideas at dinner the night before. Currently, we are working on independent projects, but we feel the stories for SOS 2 will unfold one day.

I had a few of my Ironman medals on my table near Passion’s Race, which drew a lot of attention.  Next to those, I had my 20th Anniversary medal for the Disney World Marathon, which is cool because the middle spins revealing a black and white Mickey from years passed and a colorful updated version of Mickey. That one drew the kids!!! Which brought their parents over.

We chatted, signed, and rang up sales. We gave out bookmarks, pamphlets and business cards. During the lulls, we visited. I got and gave hugs to many of my RIRW friends, many I hadn’t seen in years. I was fortunate to meet my cover designer in person. We hugged and now know what the other looks like!! If you are an author and need a captivating cover, check out www.stanzalonedesign.weebly.com. Lyn Stanzione does an awesome job!

At three o’clock we packed up and headed out. Lynn and I celebrated the day with a cold glass of wine! Then later went to enjoy a wonderful seafood dinner. After dinner, we spent a few hours working through plot problems for our current WIPs and I determined how Passion’s Spirit will end. Ha. I’m almost there!!  Look for it to be released in early January 2015.

The weekend went way too fast, but I had a wonderful time… And I sold a ton of books!!! A side note: Shop @ smashwords.com today through 12/10/14 and receive a 20% discount on Passion’s Race!! Enter coupon code: XS23Z at checkout.

Happy November!!!

Until next time, HUGS – Christine

P.S. Take a sneak peek at the four Passion’s covers on the NEWS page of my website. www.christinemazurk.com
